Atelier Bowy C.D. is a curatorial space within Henzel Studio, where parallel practices converge through experimental, contemplative, and process-driven design. Dedicated to creating contemporary handmade rugs, the atelier moves fluidly between tradition and innovation. Each piece is approached as a site-specific work, merging artisanal techniques with a refined, modern language—reflecting the sensibility of a curatorial studio.
Atelier Bowy C.D. is a curatorial platform within Henzel Studio, shaped by the artistic direction of Calle Henzel—creative director of Henzel Studio and co-curator of Kalkeriet Contemporary’s exhibitions. Over the past two decades, Henzel has worked with more than 40 international blue-chip artists—including Nan Goldin, Richard Prince, Mickalene Thomas, and Anselm Reyle—as well as institutions such as The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.
While Henzel Studio is celebrated for its artist-led collections and Calle Henzel’s signature series, Atelier Bowy C.D. charts a complementary path—prioritizing material research and design-led composition. Each rug is envisioned as a site-specific work, merging artisanal techniques with contemporary sensibilities. Through collaborations with fine art photographers, designers, architects, and other influential voices in contemporary culture, the atelier functions both as a platform for Henzel’s ongoing experimentation and for in-house, contemplative design.
